What is Corona virus?

Corona virus is a group of viruses that cause infection (diseases) to animals mainly but, it can be spread to humans and animals or birds.

Incubation period:

For coronavirus it is around 14 days. Incubation period is the time gap between exposure to an infection and the appearance of the first symptoms.

Morphology:

Corona is a latin word which means crown like structure of protein on surface. Hence, named coronavirus.
Corona family viruses are enveloped virus with positive-sense-single- stranded genome.

Origin of 2019 novel corona virus (2019-nCoV):

Currently originated in China as experts have confirmed that Corona virus is originated in animal wholesale market in the central chinese city of wuhan. However, more study is going on this to find out how exactly this virus came to humans.

They are zoonotic: they can transmit from animals to humans.

Harm from Corona virus:

They can easily make people sick with mild to moderate upper respiratory tract illness, similar to common cold. Maybe, it can be severe if not treated on time and may leads to death. Probably, it affects people with low immunity system.

Symptoms of infection of Corona virus:

There’s  a maximum chance of infection with Corona virus to the people with weaker immune system specially elderly and children.

General symptoms can be,

  1. Runny nose
  2. Headache
  3. Cough
  4. Sore throat
  5. Feeling of being unwell
  6. Fever

How to prevent Corona virus infection?

Currently, there is no vaccine available to prevent from Corona virus. We can prevent it by taking below precautions-

  • Washing hands with soap and water before you eat anything or coming from outside
  • Avoid touching to eyes, nose, mouth and above neck area with unwashed hands
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick or suspected
  • Wear well filtered mask if going to the crowded place and better avoid going crowded places

What to do if you are mildly sick?

If you are mildly sick, follow the below points

  1. If you are concerned with symptoms for continuous 6-7 days, contact healthcare provider immediately.
  2. Keep your throat moist and do not let it dry
  3. Drink warm water
  4. Avoid fried spicy food and do not eat outside food until very urgent
  5. Keep yourself hydrated, stay at home and rest


Now a day, many types of viral infections are coming without any invitation card, so you should have proactive approach always.

You never know when you will get serious virus infection, so better is to avoid it than cure by above some small and smart steps.

Every time we are surrounded by many types of bacteria and viruses but it cannot harm you if your immunity is strong.
